This Small Upgrade Can Have A Big Impact On Maintenance Costs

Fueling Trends Banner - Rising Maintenance Costs.psd

A major reason cited by marketers for increased maintenance costs is accelerated corrosion inside their Ultra Low Sulfur Diesel (ULSD) tanks and in containment sumps for fuels with higher ethanol concentrations. Corrosion of critical fuel system components, like the submersible pump, can make it difficult to access and service equipment, leading to longer service events and downtime. Not only does corrosion effect the serviceability of the equipment itself, it often produces a large amount of debris which can circulate throughout the fuel system and lead to additional maintenance expenditures.

Some issues caused by accelerated corrosion that can turn a routine service trip into a prolonged maintenance expense include:

Check Valve Replacements

If the submersible pump’s manifold and hardware are highly corroded, accessing a check valve for a simple replacement can become a nightmare for a technician. If hardware breaks or manifold covers are damaged, the technician doesn’t always have these spare parts on their truck and a simple task turns into extended downtime.

Pulling the Extractable

Pulling an extractable through a constricted, corroded tank riser with a corroded extractable casting not only takes more time, it can also damage the related equipment, shutting down a tank to wait for replacement parts to arrive.

Filter Changes

Increased debris in the fuel system from accelerated corrosion often has a direct correlation with an increase in dispenser filter changes and other dispenser related service calls.

HOW ARE MARKETERS PREVENTING CORROSION FROM INCREASING THEIR MAINTENANCE COSTS?

Many top marketers are making the switch from standard pumps to Corrosion Control™ Advanced Protection Submersible Pumps. The key to their success is the ability to stop corrosion before it has a chance to form by protecting the common metallic surfaces that are breading grounds for corrosion. Upgraded construction materials and specially formulated coatings give Advanced Protection pumps the advantage over corrosion. This factory option helps prevent corrosion both in the tank and in the sump.

Advanced Protection Key Features

1. Stainless steel relief valve, fasteners, and internal hardware
2. E-coated and powder-coated exterior metal castings
3. Stainless steel tank riser
4. Stainless steel column pipe
5. E-coated and powder-coated pump discharge head
6. Stainless steel pump motor assembly shell

In-Tank Corrosion Prevention

The all-stainless steel construction of the column pipe and specialty coatings stop corrosion from forming on the pump inside the tank. The harmful corrosion debris that can clog both the pump and increase dispenser filter changes doesn’t even have a chance to form on the pump.

In-Sump Corrosion Prevention

The powder coating applied to the pump manifold is specially formulated for fuel applications. It fills in the microscopic gaps found in other coatings to provide an impervious layer of protection, preventing corrosion from getting through or behind it.
