1944

Founded In Bluffton, Indiana

Franklin Electric was founded in 1944 in Bluffton, IN, by E.J. Schaefer and T.W. Kehoe. They named the company Franklin Electric in honor of Benjamin Franklin, whom they considered the country’s first electrical engineer. The company’s first product was a backpack generator to power the radio equipment paratroopers used during WWII.

1960

The First Submersible Fuel Pump

Developed in Australia in the late 1960’s, the Franklin Electric submersible fuel transfer pump was the first submersible pump of its kind and played a leading role in the trend towards the underground storage of petroleum products.

1988

FE PETRO® is Born

In 1988, Charles “Chuck” C. Franklin founded FE PETRO® with a vision to provide an innovative submersible turbine pump for the safe transfer of petroleum from underground tanks to aboveground fuel dispensers. Chuck partnered with Franklin Electric to provide the motors that would drive FE PETRO® submersible turbine pumps.

2000

Building A System

Through the acquisition of EBW® Inc. and APT® Inc. in 2000, FE PETRO® began expanding the company’s offering to include service station hardware, pipework, and containment products.

2002

Franklin Fueling Systems Arrives

With the acquisition of INCON® fuel monitoring products in 2002, FE PETRO® solidified its presence as a system solution provider — leading to the renaming of the company to Franklin Fueling Systems.

2006

Leading The Way in Vapor Recovery

Acquired in 2006, the HEALY™ Phase II Enhanced Vapor Recovery System was the first to be approved by the California Air Resources Board (CARB).

2010

Growing Globally

Franklin Fueling Systems acquired PetroTechnik Ltd in 2010 which expanded the offering to include UPP® piping and containment systems; recognized as the global standard and approved for use in more countries than any other system.

2021

Integrated Electrical Controls

With the acquisition of Power Integrity™ in 2021, Franklin established a new Integrated Electrical Controls product line. These products allow marketers and commercial/fleet fueling facilities to operate their fuel dispensing operations more efficiently and safely - protecting their employees, customers, equipment, and facilities.

2016

Commitment to Safety

In 2016 Franklin introduces the FFS PRO® Suite of Services with the launch of FFS PRO® University — the industry’s premier installation training program dedicated to ensuring the safe and effective installation of petroleum equipment.

2022

Welcome Back Franklin Electric

Fueled by innovation, we are redefining the Total System Solution™ to include so much more than the modern day petroleum systems we paved the way for. New capabilities allow our customers to monitor and remotely control more critical site assets and leverage our products and services to expand into new mobility frontiers. In 2022 we bring back a symbol from our past, suited for our future, with the renamaing of the company to Franklin Electric | Fueling Systems.
